«airBaltic» Celebrates 20 Years of Connecting Riga to Barcelona

Today, on March 24, 2025, the Latvian airline airBaltic celebrates a remarkable milestone – 20 years of connecting Riga (Latvia) to Barcelona (Spain). Over the years, the airline has offered customers a wide range of travel options for leisure, business, and onward connections.

Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic: “Back in 2005, Barcelona became airBaltic's first destination in Spain. Since then, demand for this route has grown significantly, making it one of the airline's most popular. Recognizing our customers' interest in flights to Spain, we have continued expanding our network, now offering direct flights to eight Spanish destinations and operating a seasonal base in Gran Canaria. This expansion has made Spain one of our largest markets.”

airBaltic connects Riga and Barcelona with up to five weekly flights, providing its passengers with two service classes – Economy and Business Class. Ticket prices are starting from EUR 89  in Economy Class and EUR 3551 in Business Class one-way.

Since the airline’s first flight on this route in March 2005, airBaltic has carried more than 1.093 million passengers and operated over nine thousand flights between the two cities.

The airline operates flights from Riga to eight destinations in Spain – Alicante, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, Madrid, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife, and Valencia. Furthermore, it maintains a seasonal base in Gran Canaria, offering flights to eight European destinations. Additioanlly, in February 2025 airBaltic launched direct service between Tallinn and Barcelona with two weekly flights.

airBaltic operates nearly 130 routes from Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Tampere, and, seasonally, Gran Canaria, offering connections to a wide range of destinations in the airline's route network in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region. A complete schedule of airBaltic flights and tickets are available on the company's homepage at www.airbaltic.com.
