Tennis player Jelena Ostapenko stars in a hilarious ad of her hometown [1]

The tennis prodigy Jelena Ostapenko, known for her surprise win at Roland Garros 2017 and reaching the semi-final at Wimbledon this year, has revealed a previously unseen side – in an ad for her hometown Riga.

Beautifully shot on 35mm film, the cinematic ad promotes Ostapenko's home turf to travellers, cleverly finding links with tennis even in the famed Art Nouveau architecture of the city. The tongue-in-cheek video puts the tennis star in a number of unexpected settings – how many times have you seen a tennis player in a church? Or on a spectacular rooftop? Fun fact – almost 2000 tennis balls were used in the making of this video.

To catch Jelena Ostapenko in action right now, check Rogers Cup in Montreal, happening until August 12, as well as Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati on August 11 – 19.

The ad is part of Insider's Guide to Riga series, created for Riga Tourism Development Bureau by DDB Latvia and director Jānis Nords.
