Nature Museum hosts an exhibition and event for families on environmental pollution

The exhibition "STOP! POLLUTED!" opens at the Latvian National Museum of Natural History. It is a story about the various types of pollution that we may experience in our daily lives. The exhibition addresses light and noise pollution, as well as microplastics, in addition to the most common problems of water, air, and soil pollution. On Saturday, November 26th, the Museum will host an educational program for families to help us learn about pollution and how to avoid it from a young age.

The exhibition "STOP! POLLUTED!" introduces six different types of pollution. It examines the main causes and consequences of the more well-known pollutants - air, water, and soil - as well as light, noise, and odor pollution, which have equally serious effects on the health of people and animals. Visitors can view the digital exhibition "Microplastics in the Urban Environment" by photographer Reinis Hofmanis, which reveals various fragments of microplastics up close, thanks to a collaboration with the Latvian Institute of Hydroecology. Each contamination is investigated in a unique way, using sound, video, various objects, and historical evidence. The exhibition offers suggestions on how we can all reduce pollution in our daily lives.

A family day will be held in the exhibition "Man and the Environment" on Saturday, November 26th, from 11 a.m. to 16 p.m., which will be of interest to parents with children aged 5 to 12. During the event, visitors will complete a task book and participate in discussions about environmental pollution and how children can help reduce it. Participants will learn how long different types of household waste take to decompose, how to identify different types of pollution, about water sustainability, and participate in a useful creative activity.

The expo is on display in the exhibition hall on the 1st floor of the Latvian National Museum of Natural History during museum hours and is free with museum admission.
