Mr Luiks Hummer at Tallinn Airport

„Mr Luik’s Hummer“ in Tallinn Airport by Urmas Viik is a car model completely covered by stamps. The idea was born through the story of Heino Luik, a renowned scientist and environmental activist, who was inspired to create Estonian Oxygen Fund during a stay in Australia in 1988, where he learned about a revival model of rain forests.
To do this he planned to print a series of stamps for 1USD a double. One of the stamps should have been kept by the buyer to prove the status as a founding member, the other part should have been posted to spread the idea. Luik ordered thousands of pairs of these stamps using a remarkable amount of private savings. Unfortunately the project never took off properly. Heino Luik was killed in a traffic accident in Tallinn on 22 August 2007 caused by a traffic hooligan, who was driving a Hummer 120 km/h in the city.

Viik built the Hummer of cardboard on a light timber frame and 35 000 stamps. The installation is located in the public area of the airport across the elevator.
XV Tallinn Print Triennial „For Love, Not Money“ that will open on 20 January is one of the first highlights of European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011.
