VTA participates in the largest tourism market of Benelux countries in Netherlands

During the week 12th – 17th of January Vidzeme Tourism Association will present the new cycling route in the annual tourism exhibition „Vakantiebeurs” in Netherlands which is the largest specialized tourism exhibition in the country.

Vidzeme Tourism Association in collaboration with Estonian – Latvian cross – border cooperation program project „Go Cycling Through Vidzeme and Southern Estonia” partners – municipalities of Vidzeme has prepared and published the map of cycling tourism in seven languages (Latvian, Estonian, Lithuanian, English, German, Finnish, Russian) with total circulation of 92000 copies. Cycling map contains a road map with selected route of “Tour de LatEst” in length of 1296 km; map contains most significant sightseeing objects that are located in close proximity of the route. This is the first edition of map and its purpose is to promote the cycling route and to invite cycling tourists to visit regions of Vidzeme and Southern Estonia. Cycling map has been published by publishing house „Jāņa sēta”.

Cycling maps will be spread in tourism information centers of Vidzeme and Southern Estonia, as well as in international tourism exhibitions.

Traditionally there are series of tourism exhibitions in Europe in the beginning of the year, where countries are presenting their tourism offers. To promote the cycling route Vidzeme Tourism Association and partners of the project – municipalities of Vidzeme in January and February will also participate in tourism markets „Vakantiebeurs”, Utrecht, Netherlands; „Matka”, Helsinki, Finland; „Balttour”, Riga, Latvia; „Reisen Hamburg”, Hamburg, Germany; „Tourest”, Tallinn, Estonia and „Vivattour”, Vilnius, Lithuania. For successful presentation of the route there is created a special design of stand, emphasizing tourism opportunities of Vidzeme and Southern Estonia – nature, holiday activities tourism, traditions and culture.

This year it is held already for the 40th time, bringing together about 1400 participants from more than 100 states. Each year exhibition is visited by 20 000 professionals of tourism industry approximately and more than 130 000 potential tourists, „Vakantiebeurs” is one of the exhibitions that are aimed at the so – called end users – information of tourists about tourism opportunities in each country.

This year a theme of Netherlands tourism market is „Meet the Locals”, which is very suitable theme for promoting offer of cycling tourism, because cycling tourist undoubtedly spends relatively longer period of time during his trip in specific region, thus getting closer not only to its nature, history and culture but also people. Statistics shows that in year 2009 guests from Netherlans made only 2% from all the tourists visiting Latvia.

In 12th of January Vidzeme Tourism Association stand in exhibition was visited by Latvian ambassador in Netherlands Sanita Pavluta Deslandes and by LIAA Head of Representation in Netherlands Katarina Hartgers.

In 13th of January students from University of Saxion will do a tourism quality research questioning the visitors of Latvian stand in exhibition.
