“This award is a significant recognition for our entire team and our partners. It confirms that our focused efforts to enhance the passenger experience, modernize processes, and advance sustainable development are acknowledged at the international level. Receiving such recognition across Europe is both a true honor and clear proof that we in the Baltics are capable of developing services and infrastructure in line with the highest industry standards,” said Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of the Board at RIX Riga Airport.
The competition jury particularly highlighted Riga Airport’s ability to maintain high operational standards while implementing innovative solutions and developing passenger services. For example, in 2025, Riga Airport exceeded its set quality targets across all major passenger service indicators, ensuring short waiting times at check-in, security screening, and baggage claim. Over the past year, the airport invested EUR 20 million in infrastructure development, including terminal expansion, airfield modernization, upgrades to the energy supply system, and environmentally friendly energy and transport projects. The airport’s performance in enhancing the passenger experience was also highly commended.
Riga Airport has also set ambitious sustainability goals and achieved Level 3+ accreditation in the global Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme. It was the first airport in the Baltics to reach this level, thereby becoming a climate-neutral airport.
Operational efficiency and quality, customer experience, and sustainability are the key criteria used to determine the winners of the “EUROPE Best Airport Awards.” In the 5–10 million passenger category, airports are assessed based on outstanding performance across all core areas, demonstrating the ability to balance growth with high-quality customer service and environmental responsibility.
This award strengthens Riga Airport’s position among Europe’s leading regional airports and confirms its important role in regional economic development, international connectivity, and the delivery of a high-quality travel experience.
