The number of passengers at Riga Airport increased by 7% last year

In 2024, Riga Airport served 7.12 million passengers, representing a 7% increase compared to 2023. Transit passengers accounted for 22% of the total, and the overall number of flights reached 63,200.

In December, nearly 582,000 passengers used Riga Airport for their travels, which is a 20% increase compared to December 2023. The total number of passengers in December slightly exceeded the figures from December 2019. During this month, 5,106 flights were handled, along with nearly 2,000 tons of air cargo.

In 2024, Riga Airport continued to experience steady passenger growth compared to the same period in the previous year. In November and December, the number of passengers served at Riga Airport reached and surpassed pre-pandemic levels, exceeding the previous year's figures by 17% and 20%, respectively. "This shows that passengers appreciate the diverse range of routes from Riga. Additionally, the available seating capacity increased by about 10% compared to the end of 2023. A balanced map of destinations, which reduces seasonal differences between winter and summer routes, is a strategy that helps us mitigate the typical decline in passenger numbers during the winter.

Furthermore, airlines have both increased the number of available seats and optimized flight schedules, contributing to higher seat occupancy, especially for holiday travel," explained Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of the Board of Riga Airport.
Currently, 11 airlines operate at Riga Airport, offering passenger services to over 85 destinations during the winter season.

The volume of air cargo handled in 2024 reached 18,580 tons, which is a 2% decrease compared to 2023. However, in recent months, there have been signs of recovery in air cargo transportation, driven by both military flights and the launch of new cargo routes by Lufthansa Cargo and Uzbekistan's Fly Khiva.
