From 22 to 28 July, the fifth Jūrmala Festival will delight the audience with six beautiful concerts at Dzintari Concert Hall. Aleksandr Antonenko, the honoured artist of the festival, together with locally and internationally renowned artists Intars Busulis, Iveta Apkalna, Vestards Šimkus, Kristīne Balanas, Andžela Goba, Alisa Zinovjeva, pianists Osokins, Latvia's Centenary Youth Symphony Orchestra with the conductor Ainārs Rubiķis, and other artists, invite the audience to an unforgettable musical summer experience at Dzintari Concert Hall.
This year's “Jūrmala Festival” will kick off with an unusual event - the greeting of the sunrise with the sounds of organ music on Dzintari Beach at 4 a.m. on 22 July. The world-renowned Latvian organist and honorary artist of Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie Iveta Apkalna will perform a special concert on the beach. The concert will begin in the dark, before sunrise, reaching the culmination along with the rising of the sun at 5.05 a.m. It will be an opportunity to experience unique acoustics; the majestic sound of organ music will blend with the wind, and the sound of the sea and trees. The concert can be enjoyed on the beach or the water when arriving by boat. The nearby cafes will also be open. The event is free of charge. For the convenience of listeners, AS "Pasažieru vilciens" has assigned an additional train from Riga to Dzintari at 3.02 a.m.
Continuing last year's tradition, on 23 July, the “Jūrmala Festival” opening concert “Born in Latvia” will present outstanding Latvian-born musicians who have gained wide international recognition - singer Intars Busulis, organist Iveta Apklana, pianist Vestards Šimkus and opera singer Aleksandr Antonenko. They will be joined on the great stage of Dzintari Concert Hall by young talents from Latvia and the unique Latvian Centenary Youth Symphony Orchestra, comprised of the best young musicians of Latvia. Conductor of the concert – the internationally renowned artistic director of the Berlin Comic Opera Ainārs Rubiķis.
On 24 July, two new stars who have charmed listeners at the most popular concert halls worldwide will shine on the stage of Dzintari Concert Hall - Latvian violinist Kristīne Balanas and the new prodigy - pianist from the United Kingdom George Harliono. Together with the Jūrmala Festival Orchestra and conductor Ainārs Rubiķis they will play the dreamlike “Violin Concerto in E minor” by Felix Mendelssohn and “Piano Concerto No. 1” by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
On 25 July, “Jūrmala Festival” invites all admirers of classical and piano music to a special concert “The Three Osokins”, where we will have the opportunity to observe three excellent pianists: a father, professor Sergey Osokin, and his sons, winners of numerous international competitions and exquisite interpreters of music – Andrey and Georgy Osokin. Together with the Chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga and conductor Guntis Kuzma they will play three piano concertos - the poetic majestic Piano Concerto No. 1 by Franz Liszt, the power of light attesting Piano Concerto No. 1 by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, and the bright, crystal-clear Piano Concerto No. 21 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
On 26 July, for the first time ever, “Jūrmala Festival” invites listeners to a concert production of the most beloved opera of Italian composer Pietro Mascagni - “Cavalleria Rusticana”. Mezzo-soprano Deniz Uzun (Germany), baritone Jānis Apeinis, soprano Alisa Zinovjeva, and mezzo-soprano Andžella Goba will perform on the stage of Dzintari Concert Hall in this, one of the most beautiful Italian operas, together with the most renowned Latvian tenor Aleksandr Antonenko. Pietro Mascagni's “Cavalleria Rusticana” is considered to be the first Italian verismo opera. Real passion, vivid melodies, and culmination in the shape of dynamic realities and drama of life will be lived through by the best soloists and Jūrmala Festival Orchestra, conductor Vello Pähn (Estonia).
The concert “Golden Selection of Broadway Musicals” has become a popular tradition among visitors of “Jūrmala Festival”. On 27 July, listeners are invited for a new programme by the most beloved musical stars from London - Ian Virgo, Damian Humbley and Sarah Fox, who regularly perform at the prestigious West End Theatre in London, which along with Broadway in New York is the highest level musical theatre in the English speaking world. Together with the Jūrmala Festival Orchestra and conductor Robert Purvis from Great Britain, they will perform the most beautiful arias and duets from Andrew Lloyd Webber, Richard Rodgers, Cole Porter, John Kander and musicals of other composers, as well as from popular movies, gifting an unforgettable summer musical adventure in Dzintari Concert Hall.
Jūrmala Festival will close on 28 July with a brilliant gala concert of the most beautiful Italian opera arias, bringing to the stage the world-famous opera singer and Jūrmala Festival honoured artist Aleksandr Antonenko, internationally renowned Latvian opera singer Alise Zinovjeva, the most outstanding Latvian bass-baritone Egils Siliņš and German mezzo-soprano Deniz Uzun. Together with Jūrmala Festival Orchestra, conductor Vello Pähn, they will perform the most beautiful Italian opera arias.
