«airBaltic» Celebrates Five Years of «Airbus A220-300» Operations

In December 2021, Latvian airline marks a five year anniversary of Airbus A220-300 operations. On December 14, 2016 the first A220-300 commercial flight took place from Riga to Amsterdam.

Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer of airBaltic: “Airbus A220-300 has transformed our airline. We are now flying the most efficient and greenest fleet, offering a higher level of service to our passengers. A220-300 have performed better than expected, and have enabled us to reach further destinations like Dubai or Tenerife. We can’t wait to fly 50 A220-300 by early 2024.”

Rob Dewar, SVP, A220 Customer Services, Satisfaction and Product Policy: “Five years ago, airBaltic, a truly visionary airline, was the first to launch operations with the A200-300. It has been an honor and an immense pleasure to accompany the team through its A220 fleet integration. Seeing our customers succeed in their business ambitions, reaching new skies and developing new markets relying on the performance and flexibility the A220 offers is a huge reward. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership!”

Since introduction of the first Airbus A220-300 aircraft in late 2016, airBaltic has carried over 7.1 million passengers on the aircraft. Thus far, most passengers have been carried to such destinations as Amsterdam, Paris, London, and Moscow. Airbus A220-300’s have completed over 86 000 flights and flown over 193 000 block hours.

Since May 2020, airBaltic operates all its flights with a single aircraft type – Airbus A220-300, thus minimizing the complexity and benefiting from the additional efficiency provided by the aircraft. Airbus A220-300 has performed beyond the company’s expectations, delivering better overall performance, fuel efficiency and convenience for both passengers and the staff. This aircraft offers an excellent flying experience with such benefits for passengers as wider seats, larger windows, more hand luggage space in the cabin, improved lavatories and much more.

In addition, the new aircraft is also considerably quieter – with a four times smaller noise footprint. Moreover, at the moment it is the greenest commercial aircraft in the world, as it is the first aircraft to have a transparent declaration of the life-cycle environmental impact, helping to reduce CO2 and NOX emissions by 20% and 50% respectively.
