Riga to Become World's Choral Capital again in 2017

More than 200 choirs are set to participate in the 3rd European Choir games and the Grand Prix of Nations in 2017. Many people know that Latvia is a musical superpower. In 2014, our country hosted the World Choir Games to resounding success, which further promoted Latvia's popularity worldwide.

During the World Choir Games last year, 460 choirs with 27,000 singers performed multiple concerts in our capital city and elsewhere across the country. The entire Latvia resembled a colourful, sonorous patchwork of songs performed by harmonious voices from all continents.

Following an official agreement, signed by the Riga Vice-Mayor Andris Ameriks, on the one hand, and Günter Titsch, President at the INTERKULTUR organisation - the organiser of the World Choir Games, on the other, the luscious song festival will again be held in Latvia in 2017.

Riga will host the 3rd European Choir games and the Grand Prix of Nations 2017 from July 16 to July 23, 2017.

INTERKULTUR President Günter Titsch comments: "Following the 2014 World Choir Games in Riga, countless choirs from all over the world cherish kind memories of the beauty and hospitality of the city. We are very happy that, just as we wished, choirs will be brought together again in this very special place that possesses rich choral traditions. We hope to continue the excellent co-operation with our partners in Riga, and are looking forward to meeting again there in 2017."

Over 200 choirs, or approximately 8,000 singers from Europe, the United States, China, and other countries of the world are expected to participate in the 3rd European Choir Games and the Grand Prix of Nations 2017.
