TAVA happy and pleased with the high praise Latvia has received from Lonely Planet.
The prestigious independent publisher of travel guides, Lonely Planet has announced that Latvia is one of Top 10 countries to visit in 2016, and awarded Latvia the high award Best in Travel 2016.
Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2016 contributor, Tom Hall, explains: "Latvia is a bright, shining modern European destination. The country not only boasts an array of castles, inns and museums, but with international influence, its local cuisine is being catapulted to new heights too."
Inese Šīrava, Acting Director at the State Tourism Development Agency (TAVA) is very pleased at the news: "The recommendation by the Lonely Planet publisher to visit Latvia next year is both good news and a great honour. It does not just mean that Latvia is worth a visit for tourists from all over the world. It is also appreciation of our work, and an inspiration to do even more in implementing tourism marketing activities in foreign markets."
For 11 years already, Lonely Planet experts have been collating information about the latest tourism trends, destinations, and travel experiences in order to choose locations that, in their opinion, deserve the title of the Best in Tourism next year. This is the first time Latvia has been given the high recognition.
Inese Šīrava emphasises: "Even though it may seem that work in tourism is easy and even romantic, it is actually very hard and painstaking work. Various external factors also play an important role in tourism, such as weather conditions, global security, economic and geopolitical situation. Statistics available at the moment show that the first half of this year was very successful for us. Hopefully the recommendation by Lonely Planet, that tourists should visit our country, will be heard by a lot of people, prompting many more tourists to come visit Latvia."
Lonely Planet has been publishing travel guides for over 40 years, and over the course of these years it has won worldwide respect as an expert authority. The public pays great attention to tourist destinations that Lonely Planet recommends to visit every year. Past experience shows that the Best in Travel title means a substantial increase in publicity.
