10th Night of Bats at Ķemeri National Park

On July 16, the Nature Conversation Agency the Regional Administration of the District of Riga in cooperation with Jurmala City Council invites everyone to the Night of Bats at Ķemeri National Park. The event will be held near “Forest Home” in Ķemeri, beginning of the event – 19:00.

This event is held for 10 years.  In honour of the anniversary of the Night of Bats, in addition to traditional event activities, the organizers have created new opportunities for learning more about bats and will give a look at the last year’s activities of the Night of Bats. Adults and children will be able to participate in the creation of the puppet-show and to play scenes of bats life. During the event workshops and the path of knowledge tasks about bats life will be opened.

The essential part of this event is lectures, held by Viesturs Vintulis – the leading bats investigator in Latvia and the founder of the Night of Bats. The visitors of the event will learn something new about various species of bats, its way of life, habits and bats distribution in Latvia and in the world.

After the sunset, about 22:10 will follow the main event – the bat watching tour in  Ķemeri National Park. During the tour attended by experts the visitors will see and hear (with the help of ultrasonic detector) various species of bats living in the park. After the tour, drinking a cup of hot tea visitors can share their impressions about the tour.
Free entry. Night of Bats’ visitors are recommended to wear comfortable clothing and footwear that is appropriate to weather conditions, and take along pocket flashlights and repellents. There is no public transport from Ķemeri after the event.
