Cost saving measures introduced for Riga Castle

In anticipation of the new heating season, which will be accompanied by a sharp increase in electricity and natural gas prices caused by Russia's aggressive war in Ukraine, the Chancery of the President of Latvia is implementing an energy and heat-saving plan in Riga Castle and the Jūrmala Residence.

The maximum air temperature in the working areas is 19ºC. In addition, the power supply in the work areas is switched off outside working hours and on weekends. The gradual change to LED lighting in the work and entertainment areas is also nearing completion.

More visible to the public is the decision not to switch on the decorative lighting of the façade and garden of Riga Castle during the hours of darkness. Riga Castle will be lit on November 11, November 14 and November 18.

This autumn, the Chancery of the President has decided not to host the protocol reception at Riga Castle on November 17. The reception will be combined with a concert at the Latvian National Theatre on November 18. However, no decoration of Riga Castle is planned for the Christmas season.

Since the heating and electricity costs for the Chancery of the President have increased three times, it's hoped that this plan will save financial resources.
