airBaltic nominated for International Award for Excellence in social media

Latvian national airline airBaltic has been nominated for the SimpliFlying-Airlines Business Awards for Social Media Excellence as one of the best airlines in the world in using social media. airBaltic was nominated in three of the four categories – the best social media marketing campaign, the best use of the social media to enhance revenue, and the SimpliFlying hero – a person who works with the social media profile of the airline on an everyday basis.

Tero Taskila, airBaltic Chief Commercial Officer: We are the most popular airline in the world in social media if we look at the number of fans and followers in relationship to total passenger number. We sincerely thank our friends and followers in thesocial media. We dont need Quality Hunters as we have more than 50 000 airBaltic friends on Facebook and Twitter help us every day to improve our customer service and products.

The SimpliFlying team selected five nominees from 104 applications. The nominations which airBaltic received had to do with a marketing campaign for the new airBaltic Bombardier Q400Next Gen aircraft, Tweeting Plane, as the best social media marketing campaign, the airBaltic ticket sales campaign FanDay on Facebook as the best use of the social media to enhance revenue, and the airBaltic marketing specialist Kārlis Smiltens as the SimpliFlying hero.

The finalists in the campaign will be determined in an Internet vote, and so everyone can go to the http://simpliflying.com/ Web page to cast a vote. The voting will continue until September 30. The three most popular airlines will present their work to a SimpliFlying jury in London in October of this year. After evaluating the presentations, the jury will announce the winners.

airBaltic has previously received the title of Airline of the Year 2009/2010 (Gold Award) from the European Regions Airline Association. airBaltic is also the winner of Air Transport World Phoenix Award 2010 – a global recognition of excellence in restructuring business, an award that has the same meaning for airlines as the Oscar award for filmmakers.
