Spacious and intimate summer cafes and terraces

In springtime, as Tallinn turns verdant and blossoms with the first warm rays of sun, restaurants and cafes open their summer yards and terraces that will close again in the autumn. There are unique places for dining al fresco in the centre as well as elsewhere in the city.

The cafe Chocolats de Pierre in the Masters' Courtyard in Old Town with its lovely cosy courtyard and the romantic summer terrace of Hotel Telegraaf. The lush garden of the restaurant Leib Resto & Aed hidden between the walls of Old Town looks like it has been imported from Tuscany. The lounge cafe Must Puudel is cosy and the prices are reasonable.  Enjoy the romantic atmosphere and live music there along with the food. The shaded inner yard is a great place with an easy-going vibe.

Komeet cafe features a breath-taking view of the Estonia National Opera and the Old Town. Without doubt, the roof terrace of Komeet is one of the best places to hang out in Tallinn. Close-by, on the uppermost floor of Radisson Blue Sky Hotel, is the Lounge 24 bar, which offers a view as enchanting as that of Komeet.

New restaurants are popping up like daisies in Kalamaja. Cafe Maru in the Seaplane Harbour has a wonderful terrace. cafe Klaus shares its building with the Estonian Design House. You can enjoy high-level Estonian design there together with simply delicious food, coffee and other refreshments.

The renowned Boheem, Kalamaja's first cafe, has withstood the test of time and a visit there is always a pleasure, while the new restaurant complex of the Telliskivi Creative City (Telliskivi Loomelinnak) is a true surprise – there are cafes and restaurants there for every taste.

In the green Kadriorg Park, next to the Swan's Pond, is cafe Katharienthal, with its exuberant summer yard. The Reval Cafe in Kumu Art Museum also offers a snug and lovely view of the park. The 100-seat terrace of the Kalev Yacht Club on the bank of river Pirita is another enjoyable place in the summer.

On the border between Tallinn and Viimsi is NOA. This is one of the most posh restaurants in Tallinn with a beautiful view of the sea. Paat seaside pub and restaurant looks unique, like a huge boat that has been turned upside down. Again fantastic views of the panorama of Tallinn are in abundance there! The RootS seaside bar in Viimsi, right next to the sea, is a place like no other. This is where you go when you feel like sticking your toes in the sand and enjoying a picturesque sunset.

When in the district of Mustamäe, the garden restaurant Umami is well worth a visit with its cosy atmosphere – Estonians themselves find it reminiscent of their grandmother's place. The restaurant, located in a beautiful private house with a spacious garden, achieves top marks for the quality of its food and child-friendly atmosphere.
