ALŪKSNE NEW PALACE

Want to feel like an aristocrat? Enter the Alūksne New Palace, built in the late Tudor Neo-Gothic style in the second half of the 19th century for Baron von Vietinghoff. Castle houses Alūksne Museum and  nature museum "Environment Labyrinth".

TEMPLE HILL PARK AND ALŪKSNE SIGHTSEEING TOWER

Temple Hill Park is a place that makes Alūksne the highest town in Latvia. Top of the hill is decorated with the Temple of Fame – the granite rotunda built in 1807. Nearby is a pedestrian bridge called the Sun Bridge, and few minutes foward- Alūksne Sightseeing tower- 37.8 metres high.

ALŪKSNE MANOR PARK

A beautiful town hides beautiful surprises. In 18th century Baron von Vietinghoff-Scheel became the owner of the little Alūksne manor and still in nowadays the park is ranked among the most significant monuments of history and culture in Latvia because of the number of small architectural forms preserved there. Even their names sound like a song – the Aeolus’ temple, the Bird Pavilion, the Granite Obelisk and others.

ALŪKSNE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH

The church is one of the noblest monuments of early classicism in Latvia built between 1781 and 1788. The view from 55 metres high tower was so picturesque that the Baron wanted to build an oak staircase in the tower to make it easier for guests to climb. The church contains a treasure - an organ built by the master August Martin.

ALŪKSNE CULTURE CENTRE

Such miracles only happen in Alūksne – the house where beer used to be brewed offers Cultural events now. The beer brewery built in the 19th century is an architectural monument, and in autumn of 2015 the Alūksne Culture Centre opened its doors to visitors after a renovation.

LAKE ALŪKSNE

It's easy to shift yourself from the town into nature if one of the cleanest lakes in Latvia is close at hand. There are four islands in the lake, including Pilssala with the ruins of the Livonian Order castle built in 1342 and Cepurīte Island where people have lived since the Stone Age. To get a closer look at these places, little ship Marienburg will take you around the lake. The ZZZIPPP aerial rope ride will bring breathtaking emotions over Lake Alūksne.

CASTLE ISLAND

Which one is more romantic - a castle or an island? Alūksne offers both at the same time as it has a castle on an island. In the Livonian Order castle’s restored tower musical libretto "MARIENBURG the eighth brother" tells about the history of the castle in special sound and light screenings. The Castle island also features a footpath around the ruins, a swimming area, a stadium, volleyball courts, a children's playground, a multifunctional service building and an open-air stage.

ERNST GLÜCK’S BIBLE MUSEUM

This is the place where German priest Ernst Glück finished the first complete Bible translation into Latvian, published in 1694. In the museum there are Bibles in 40 different languages, a Bible in Braille and many other exhibits. Not far away from the museum, are Glück’s Oak Trees. The priest planted them, when he had finished the translation of the New and the Old Testament.

ALŪKSNE AT NIGHT

Have a walk along the streets of Alūksne at night, when wonderful light performances decorate the town. Fountains in the Summer season sparkle in the New Palace Park till midnight, and colourful lights illuminate the pedestrian bridge, the Rotunda in Temple Hill and the 7th Sigulda Infantry Regiment Monument.

ALŪKSNE BĀNĪTIS STATION

The Gulbene-Alūksne narrow gauge train is the only one in the Baltics that still provides regular passenger services. In the multimedia exhibition in the historic baggage shed at the railway terminal in Alūksne you will discover the facts of railway history, hear the unique stories of 10 stations, and how Bānītis still inspires people even nowadays.
