On 31 October the sixth new airline this year – the Russian carrier Transaero – started operations from Riga International Airport offering three flights a week between Riga and Moscow (Domodedovo Airport).

Transaero operates flights on the route Riga - Moscow three times a week - on Monday, Friday and Sunday. On Mondays departure from Riga takes place at 12:25 (arrival in Moscow - at 15:00), and departure from Moscow – at 10:35 (arrival in Riga at 11:25). On Fridays and Sundays the flights from Riga are scheduled for 20:30 (arrival in Moscow – at 23:10), and from Moscow – for 18:25 (arrival in Riga – at 19:10). Duration of the flight – one hour and forty minutes. The airline Transaero performs flights on Boeing 737 aircraft. Henceforth regular traffic between Riga and Moscow will be maintained by four carriers - airBaltic and Aeroflot - to Sheremetyevo Airport, UTair Aviation - to Vnukovo Airport, and Transaero - to Domodedovo Airport.

Chairman of the Board of Riga International Airport Krišjānis Peters said: „We are gratified that one of the biggest and fast-growing airlines of the Russian Federation has opened flights from Riga International Airport. Transaero is the sixth new airline this year commencing flights to Riga and now we can offer the richest choice of air travel to Moscow with four airlines operating flights between Riga and the three biggest Moscow airports. This is reflected in a sharp rise of passenger traffic between Moscow and Riga by 45 percent compared with last year’s result and now Moscow is the fifth most popular destination. A significant precondition for beginning of our cooperation was Riga's strategic geographical position and our tariff policy that is one of the friendliest and most competitive among the airports of European capital cities.”

Transaero Deputy Air Operations Directory Valery Zaitsev said: „We are very glad indeed that on our airline’s flight map there has appeared the name of a very beautiful city: Riga. Transaero is focussed on growing: the fleet is enlarged and new destinations opened. In the winter season of 2010/2011 only we are commencing flights to 18 new destinations. Transaero has always taken care of the comfort and reliability of flights, therefore the number of passengers carried by the airline is steadily growing. In the nine months of 2010 our passenger traffic rose by 33 percent. Transaero’s unique flight network provides its passengers not only with direct trip options, but also with transfer flights via Moscow. Transaero operates many routes to the cities of Russia, the CIS, other European countries as well as Asia, America and Africa. We believe that our flights to Riga will be demanded by the passengers who highly appreciate the quality of Transaero services.”

This year the flight network has been further expanded and now passengers can reach 82 direct destinations from Riga International Airport. Transaero will provide richer and more convenient options for connecting flights to further locations in Russia and more than 10 direct destinations in Asia (Japan, China, Vietnam etc.), in North America and Europe.

In 2009 Transaero carried more than five million passengers and now it is the second biggest airline in Russia. Transaero performs flights to 67 direct destinations all year round. The total number of Transaero routes, depending on the winter and summer flight schedules, is close to 100.

Transaero currently has the biggest long-howl aircraft fleet in Russia, the CIS, Central and Eastern Europe: 57 aircrafts, of which twelve are Boeing 747, seven - Boeing 777, twelve - Boeing 767 and twenty one – Boeing 737 aircraft.

Flights can be booked on Transaero website www.transaero.ru. Tickets for a flight from Riga to Moscow cost from 70 euros and up.
