Tallinn’s Tourism figures for December released

The number of accommodated visitors has dropped slightly the latest figures revealed.

In December 79 900 tourists stayed in Tallinn’s accommodation establishments (-10% or 8 500 less tourists compared with December 2007.) Eighty four per cent of accommodated visitors were foreign tourists. The number fell among both; foreign and domestic tourists.

Despite a decline in December figure show that over in2008 more tourists stayed in Tallinn than in the previous year.

1 189 100 tourist stayed overnight in Tallinn’s accommodation establishments (4% more tourists compared with 2007). Altogether a total of 1 023 000 (6%) foreign visitors stayed in Tallinn’s accommodation establishments, as well as 166 000 (-5%) Estonian citizens. Nights at accommodation establishments in Tallinn stay unchanged, 2 097 000. foreigners’ nights rose by 2%, but domestic nights were down 12%. Foreigners’ nights totaled 1 812 000 and domestic nights 285 700.

Overall Sixty seven thousand and one hundred foreign tourists visited Tallinn in December 2009, compared to December the previous yearit represents a decrease of6% or 4 100 tourists. The number of domestic tourists also went down, the number of accommodated visitorsfell 26%, or 4,500 tourists, for a total of 12,800.

The total number of bed nights also fell10%. Altogether in December tourists stayed in Tallinn’s accommodation establishments for a total of 138 700 nights (-2% or -2 800 bed nights less than previous year). Foreign tourists made up a total of 118 000 of that number, a decrease 8% less bed nights, Estonian citizens stayed 25% less nights (for a total of 20 700 nights).

As in the previous months, the number of accommodated tourists from Russia has increased (8 600 Russian tourists, +25%), also the Swedish market went up (3 700 Swedes, +31%). British, Latvian, German and Norwegian tourists numbers continue to decline (-28%,-26%,-22% and -15%). The number of tourists from Finland went down -8%. The average length of stay for tourists was 1.74 nights. The figure declined among both foreigners and domestic visitors.

Seventy four per cent of accommodated tourists arrived for holidays, 24% were on a business trip (4% consisted of conference attendance) and the rest (2%) had some other reason for visiting Tallinn.

In December 412 accommodation establishments offered accommodation services for tourists; 7 200 rooms and 14 400 beds were available for tourists. Room occupancy rate was 39% and the average cost of a guest night in an accommodation establishment was 560 kroons.
