Cross-country skiing in Latvia

For those who enjoy the outdoors, Latvia and its long winters is the perfect destination for those who like cross-country skiing through majestic forests. There many cross-country ski tracks of various distances and skill level throughout Latvia.

Many of Latvia’s cross-country ski tracks are located in some of the country’s most beautiful scenery, which means that a day out skiing is not only a great way of spending the day outdoors, but also a great way of enjoying Latvia’s beautiful outdoors.

The Latvian "highlands" in central Vidzeme Province have several such cross-country tracks - "Lejas Jozumi" and "Riekstu" tracks near Gaiziņš Hill, the "Baili" track near Valmiera, as well as the track in Sigulda called "Laurenči".

In Latvia’s Latgale Province near Aglona, there is a beautiful ski track that circles the splendid Cirsi Lake. The track features straight and hilly parts, and when the lake is frozen solid, it is also possible to ski on the lake.

Almost all of Latvia’s cross-country ski tracks have cozy guest houses in the near vicinity, where persons can relax in the sauna and have a warm meal after a day out and about.

The rural tourism association "Lauku Celotajs" even offers three-day ski packages to the Gaiziņš Hill area in Vidzeme, as well as one-day packages to coastal ski tracks in charming Kurzeme Province.

Riga also features several places where persons can go cross-country skiing – through the pine forests of Mežaparks suburb, as well as at "Victory Park" in the Pārdaugava suburb.
